Sunday April 30 Denver

Street art seen during our Sunday morning walk.

Denver’s striking architecture

Colorado State Capitol
Supreme Court
Gas & Electric-Building

2 hour walking Tour through LoDo District.

Union Station: Food Court and Crawford Hotel

The walking tour explained how Denver was the wild west in the 1890s with all the settlers wanting to come west. Denver had and still does lots of bars and restaurants but also a thriving business for lumber, opium, once the largest tram system and no city is without it, the red light district.

Dana Crawford who came to Denver in 1954 and made it her mission to keep LoDo District to its original vibe. At 91 years old she keeps fighting.

Red Rock Amphitheater

Colorado Music Hall of Fame

We felt like we were back in the 70s! Flower power, Patchouli, Love & Peace and tie-dye stuff all around. The California honey-drops were just fabulous and Trevor Hall’s show was gigantic. The red rock amphitheater is definitely a magical place! I’m glad we have seen it.

Trevor Hall’s fantastic light show.

A long, sunny and intense day full of surprises!

  1. Hi! I grew up in Colorado Springs. So….

    1) The Garden of the Gods is a great place to go hiking.
    2) Manitou Springs is a cute town where you can also take the cog railway up to the top of Pikes Peak.
    3) The Broadmoor Hotel is beautiful to wander around in, and the Broadmoor Zoo is great for feeding the giraffes. Have a drink at the Golden Bee. My mom used to go dancing to the Big Band sounds back in the day.
    4) The Seven Falls is also near The Broadmoor and is another great little hike.

Austin…..we’ve done quite a few things there so you know what to do.
    1) watch the bats come out from under Congress bridge.
    2) eat a Gueros and wander around South Congress.
    3) Buy some cowboy boots at Allen Boots
    4) Get a cowboy hat made to your specs at Maufries.
    5) drive out to Driftwood, TX and go to the original Salt Lick BBQ
    6) go see someone live at the intimate Moody Theater below the W Hotel downtown.

I’d tell you to stay in my condo, but my niece Allison is living there currently.

Looking forward to seeing what y’all’s adventures bring!

    Xoxoxo,
    Al
