19 May Portland OR

Sorry for the late post but we seem to be exhausted at the end of the day.

Yesterday we started with a beautiful walk along the Deschutes river in Bend and discovered some interesting wildlife. 🙂

We then left Bend to explore the Smith Rock State Park and it’s the amazing climbing walls.

After so much walking we stopped at a local pub in Madras and got to know the local community. We then made our way through Warm Spring Reservation towards Mt. Hood. Sadly the weather did not play nice with us and we could only see Mt. Hood from afar.

We drove through Rhododendron-Land where we saw wall to wall Rhododenron. We stopped at Boring Winery where we discovered from our own research that Pino Grigio and Pino Gris come from the same grape but taste differently. 🙂

In the late afternoon we made it to Portland and found a hotel with a library of 3000 books. We enjoyed some sushi for dinner before we crashed.

A new day today to explore Portland before setting off to Seattle with a stop at Mount St. Helens volcano.

18 May Bend OR

Before we started our drive to Bend we visited the Boise Saturday farmers market. Amazing fresh food from funghi to greens and cheese. We did buy a huckleberry raspberry jam, honey and raspberry jam and a Alborino wine from Snake River Winery ID. Majo got her cappuccino fix with a pistachio croissant 🙂

The drive to bend was beautiful through windy roads with sagebrush left and right. An hour before getting into beautiful Bend you see the Cascade range mountains with snow tops.

Caro, my favorite Buddy and fantastic Driver!

We stayed at Riverhouse on the Deschutes which allowed us to take an outside aperitif alongside the river. Before dinner we did stop at McMenamins Old St. Francis school as it has been turned into an event space with 3 different bars. We enjoyed a drink in the whiskey and cigar bar with old church pews.

Strolling down the city center we enjoyed this beautiful city with many outdoor space seatings. Bend is much bigger than Jackson with 106,000 population but has a very similar feel.

Today we are off to Portland. On the way we will explore some hikes and of course some Oregon winery. I will get Majo to try at least 2 wines. 🙂
