April 6

While a rich and healthy breakfast at the “Mad Carpenter” Lawrence and Danny Thomas taught us about local history and shared their collection of all kind of old stuff, like a full china dinnerware with images of the history of the US. Postcards and personal Stories.

Caro, Lawrence and Danny
Caro got her her eggs with sausage and Rösti! (what a happy face!)
The names of “The Petticoat Rulers”!
I’m sure in the 1920s there was no crime under this government in Jackson…!!

What the „Petticoat Rulers“ achieved within three years of governing:

1. completed road grading

2. expanded electricity

3. collected overdue taxes witch helped create the first council budget

4. past an ordinance that made littering a misdemeanor

5. built street lanterns

6. past a law making it illegal for cattle to grase in the town square! (You have to start somewhere…)

Mayor Grace Miller stated in 1922:

„We simply tried to work together… we put into practice the same thrifty principles we exercise in our own homes. We wanted a clean, well kept, progressive town in witch to raise our families. What is good government but a breathing space for good citizenship?“

Politicians today should listen to the old Petticoat Rulers!
